How to Overcome Beginner Dance Class Anxiety

31 October 2022

Learning to dance may seem scary at first, but it can also be extremely rewarding and build confidence. It’s actually pretty common for people to experience anxiety when attending an unfamiliar place or starting a new activity. However, nine times out of ten, the experience is never as scary as you imagined and you end up having a great time!

Here are our top tips to make it easier.

1. Avoid Surprises

Take the time to look at your local dance schools website and social media accounts. This will help you to learn about the teaching staff and their qualifications. It will also give you a feel for what the school is like. Taking the time to prepare where you are going and who you are going to see can help reduce anxiety massively.

2. Dig Deeper

You could contact the school to find out more about their beginners classes over phone, email or social media. This gives you an opportunity to ask any questions and to receive personalised advice that will help you specifically.

3. Don’t go it alone

You could bring a friend or family member with you to try out your first class. If this isn’t an option then you could contact the school to ask if they have class assistants on hand to help out.

4. Attend an open day

Most dance schools run open days throughout the year. This is a great opportunity to try out a free class and see if it’s for you.

Don’t forget even the greatest dancers were once beginners
