Have you ever wondered how dancing could change your life? Here are four reasons why you should consider learning to dance in the New Year.

Meet Your Goals
“A goal without a plan is just a wish” - It’s coming up to the time of year when most of us start reflecting on what we have achieved, and what we want to accomplish in the future. As  TV shows like ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ have become more popular, learning to dance is now on more people’s to-do list. Whether it’s just learning the basics or you aspire to compete at Blackpool, there are classes available to help you achieve your goals. (View our Timetable here).

As well as being able to follow in the footsteps of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Dancing can also help to meet other common resolutions such as weight loss, increased fitness and stamina levels, improve balance and co-ordination and can also increase muscle tone. Take your Confidence to a New Level
Okay, we all know that “Dance Floor Anxiety” is a very real problem for most, especially for guys who are worried about  looking awkward or foolish. But with a bit of training, even the most self-conscious person can become a master of the dance floor! This new found confidence won’t just stay on the dance floor, it will start to boost your confidence in other areas of your life such as work or other social activities. Practice often, and soon you will see the result of your hard work.

Improve Your Mental Wellbeing
Dance isn’t just great for the body, but it can also help your mental health as well. Dancing can help to reduce stress levels and even help to fight depression and decrease anxiety levels. It allows you to forget your troubles as you get lost in the movement and in the music.

It is well known that physical exercise can help you to feel good, as the body releases a chemical called ‘Seretonin’, which is responsible for improving your mood. There have also been studies that have shown that Ballroom dancing in particular can improve memory and ward off the onset of diseases such as Alzheimers and Dementia.

Expand Your Social Circle
Whether you are attending a weekly class or dancing the night away at our social evening, there are plenty of opportunities for you to meet new people, whether that is on the floor with a fellow student, or whilst getting a drink from the bar! It is easy to start conversations as you all share a common interest; dancing! These conversations can lead to a friendly and supportive network of people who you can share your dancing journey with, and even make long term friendships that continue outside of the ballroom.
