The New Year began with the Regency Dance Centre’s competitive team headed to Blackpool, the home of ballroom dancing, for the prestigious annual Champions of Tomorrow competition, held in the historic Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens.

Over two days of Ballroom and Latin-American competitions, the Regency Team waltzed, jived, quickstepped and cha cha’d their way through round after round in front of an honoured panel of adjudicators. Pupils were representing the school in a multitude of categories, in both the Ballroom & Latin-American branches. Students had the opportunity to dance as a couple or in Teacher-Student events.

Events entered included the Under 12 Years Solo, the Over-40s Teacher-Student and couple events. For the students, this famous event was a culmination of months of hard work by themselves and their teachers and the dedication was evident on the dancefloor, as students gave their all to make it through to semi-finals and finals.

The weekend was not only incredibly special for the competitors, but also for other members of The Regency Dance Centre who went along in support of their team, their friends and to soak up the incredible atmosphere.

Ken, 79, took his first ever trip to the seaside town with the dance centre this year, and whilst not only getting the chance to watch the phenomenal competition he also got the chance to dance in the renowned Blackpool Tower Ballroom with his coach Kim Dunn.

‘’I have had the most incredible weekend. I am speechless at the talent I have seen.’’

—Ken, Student of The Regency Dance Centre

All the students and supporters who attended had a fantastic weekend and we are all looking forward to the next dance holiday which will be to the seaside town of Bournemouth in June 2018 for the UK Closed Championships and Dinner Dance.

If you would like to become a part of the Regency, whether it be socially, to learn your wedding dance, to compete, take exams or maybe in preparation for your upcoming cruise, there is a class suitable for all - for every age and every level – including group and private lessons.
