Saturday the 10th January 2015 saw the arrival of the 'Champions of Tomorrow' ballroom dance competition at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. The Regency Dance Centre had organised a trip for us would be dancers to experience the atmosphere of such a prestigious competition.

To make it even more exciting 2 couples from the Thursday night class had qualified to dance, Susan Ottaway and Stephen Hill and Andrew Sigsworth and Lisa Shorebridge. Of course, one mustn't forget the competition regulars, Andrew and Sian were also competing, albeit at a different level.

On the Friday about 24 people arrived at the hotel and the weekend started with a great pub meal followed by evening drinks at the bar. A late night was had by many, even more amazing was the youngster that were competing the next day were full of beans and had more energy than all us adults. After a couple of drinks the sandman took us into our dreams.

Saturday morning had an appealing start with full English breakfast then over to the Winter Gardens we all went. For those who have never attended this place, it a grand Art Deco building and the ballroom is truly amazing. The atmosphere was electric and naturally the nerves of our gang were starting to show. Everywhere you looked there were sequins, feathers, netting and of course fake tan, but everyone was smiling and it struck me how kind everyone was. There might be a competitive atmosphere on the dance floor but once off the dance floor the gloves were off and they were all good friends.

Following the children, who were amazing, it was time for the adults to take to the floor. Susan, Stephen, Andrew and Lisa took to the floor to a rapturous applause from the regency group and performed superbly. I think many of us had to hold back the tears as we watched on with pride, knowing that it was only 12 months ago they took their first ballroom dance steps at the Regency Ballroom. Then it was the turn of Andrew and Sian, and wow, did those guys perform, they looked stunning and well deserved their place in the semi finals.

Once the ballroom was completed it was time for the latin. Andrew and Lisa performed their cha cha cha and jive with big smiles on their faces once again followed by Andrew and Sian. It was a fabulous day with lots of laughter, banter and good dancing. Of course, once again the day had to be rounded off with celebratory drinks.

Sunday came round far too soon and after a good breakfast, coffee and paracetamol we all headed home with great memories that will stay with us for ever. I would strongly recommend attending events like this and trying to make a weekend of it. Comments were passed like ," it's the best weekend I've had," and " we must do that again it was great," also I heard "I want to compete again so I can have a good weekend away again." I think those quotes speak for themselves. Thank you so much to Kim and Chris for organising such a fabulous weekend.

All that's left to say is come on and join the Regency Team, you won't regret it.
